Historical Collections | Memories of Great Men
//= $catTxt; ?>On October 15, Artcurial will present an exceptional auction dedicated to the great figures of history, featuring a selection of documents, objects, and memorabilia of rare symbolic significance. From Bonaparte to de Gaulle, and from the origins of modern Egyptology to the early years of the Fifth Republic, this three-part sale highlights men of action, science, and power who shaped the world. The first section focuses on Bonaparte’s Egyptian expedition and his entourage of scholars, showcasing an extraordinary collection of drawings and documents from the former collection of Jean-Joseph Marcel, orientalist and key witness to this historic adventure. The second section reveals the political and personal relationship between Paul Reynaud and Charles de Gaulle, through the rediscovery of a rich corpus of autograph letters and previously unseen mementos, from the descendants of Paul Reynaud. The final section, dedicated to the Principality of Monaco, unveils three unique watches that belonged to Pierre Rey, private advisor to Prince Rainier III. These discreet witnesses of a formative era illustrate his central role in the modernization of the Rock. Through these three chapters, Artcurial celebrates visionary lives, historic correspondences, and objects charged with history that keep the memory of great men alive.
