A Moroccan winter | Brussels

On the occasion of the centenary of the Jardin Majorelle (Marrakech), Artcurial is organizing an exhibition in Brussels around its special auction Majorelle & His Contemporaries. One hundred years ago, in October 1924, Jacques Majorelle settled permanently in Marrakech and purchased a 1.6-hectare plot of land. The French painter, originally from Nancy, had his villa and artist’s studio built there by architects Robert Poisson and Paul Sinoir. In the palm grove, the site was designed as a lush garden featuring over 300 plant species. Bathed in light and color, this garden would become the inspiration for one of his most iconic series: the Nus Noirs.

Today, Artcurial Morocco is celebrating the centenary of this symbolic location in Marrakech with a special auction on December 30 at the Mamounia. In advance of this auction, the Brussels office will exhibit the top lots from the sale from November 20th to 26th.
