Between heaven and earth. Masterpieces from a French Collection
//= $catTxt; ?>On April 30th, Artcurial will hold an exceptional auction of an important collection of Old Master and 19th-century paintings, titled BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH, Masterpieces from a French Collection. Formed around the year 2000 by a couple of passionate collectors, this exceptional ensemble consists primarily of works painted in the Netherlands in the 15th and 16th centuries, in Flanders in the 17th century, and also in Brittany at a later period, in the early 20th century. An unwavering passion for nature in all its forms, combined with an intense curiosity about the religious questions marking the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, explains the precise and ambitious choices made by these collectors.
Among the forty works, there are four oil paintings on panel by Pieter Brueghel II, featuring famous scenes such as The Harvest, The Preaching of St. John the Baptist, and The Wedding Procession — all three signed — as well as two copper engravings by Jan Brueghel I, paying homage to the most famous of painting dynasties.
