Timber construction: let’s stop the myths. The numbers speak for themselves

Timber construction is often said to be much more expensive than conventional building. That’s not true. Hout Info Bois carried out a rigorous, objective study based on real market data: the difference is around 4%, far less than most people think, and it drops to 2.5% when higher energy standards are applied. With the construction sector facing the climate emergency, CO₂ reduction targets, and ever-stricter energy regulations, one question stands out: why aren’t we building more with wood? For too long, timber construction has had an undeserved reputation: too costly, too fragile, too marginal. While governments commit to cutting CO₂ emissions, energy standards tighten, and people worry about the environment and the future of their children, timber construction provides a simple solution that should be embraced. And yet, it is still often overlooked.
