Happy U!

From June 6, 2025, to February 22, 2026, the Musée L will celebrate the 600th anniversary of the University of Leuven, now UCLouvain. A milestone not to be missed, as the university is one of the oldest in the world still in operation! To mark this anniversary, the university museum in Louvain-la-Neuve will host a celebration featuring two temporary exhibitions and a fully redesigned space. With Happy U!, visitors will learn more about the university, its many facets, and, more broadly, about six centuries of societal developments.

Founded in 1425, the University of Leuven (UCLouvain) has withstood the test of time by embracing innovative ideas, adapting to change, and constantly reinventing the transmission of knowledge. From the scientific revolution led by Georges Lemaître to its work on inclusion and ecological transition, the university has remained steadfast in its commitment to education, research, and society.

The Musée L presents several exhibitions: an anniversary exhibition revealing behind-the-scenes stories and both major and minor moments from the university’s history, a celebration of the often-forgotten but crucial tool for any university: the lecture notes; and finally, a newly updated section in the permanent exhibition that uncovers the scientific process in all its complexity, marked by doubts, failures, but also great discoveries.
