80th Anniversary of The Battle of the Bulge
//= $catTxt; ?>The 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge reminds us of the famous words “Nuts!” spoken by General McAuliffe on December 22, 1944, in response to the German surrender ultimatum. These words symbolize the determination of the American soldiers who fought to defend our freedom. However, it is the sacrifices of tens of thousands of soldiers that shaped our history. Each year, many veterans return to the places where they fought, and it is invaluable to honor these living witnesses.
The commemorations of the 80th anniversary in December represent one of the last opportunities to express our gratitude to them and to hear them share what they endured. The commemoration weekend, with the presence of Their Majesties the King and Queen on Saturday, December 14, will honor these heroes and perpetuate their memory. It is an important moment to emphasize the responsibility of remembrance and the value of our freedom. This “Nuts weekend” will be an opportunity for young people, families, and citizens from all walks of life to come together and pay a solemn and fitting tribute to those who sacrificed their youth, and sometimes their lives, to defend our values of peace, democracy, and tolerance.
