On Feb. 10, 2024, a new memorial site will open its doors: the Bastogne War Rooms. An emblematic World War II site, the Bastogne War Rooms houses the basement where Brigadier-GeneralMcAuliffe of the 101st Airborne Division famously uttered his "NUTS" on Dec. 22, 1944, in response to the demand for surrender from the German troops surrounding the town of Bastogne. This boosted the morale of Bastogne's American defenders and established the town and its garrison as a symbol of resistance in the face of the war's last major German offensive. Using immersive scenography, the Bastogne War Rooms will immerse visitors in an educational journey, a true historical reconstruction of the key moments that took place there, including the "NUTS" scene. The Bastogne War Rooms are an ideal complement to what is on display at the Bastogne War Museum and the Bois Jacques.
