Selected 20/21
//= $catTxt; ?>During Art Basel Paris week, Artcurial unveiled the second edition of its Selected 20/21 sale — a session dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art that brought together collectors and art enthusiasts around 27 exceptional works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Conducted by Arnaud Oliveux, the sale achieved an impressive total of €9,708,940 / $11,286,157 (including fees), with the room filled to capacity.
Among the day’s highlights, a pair of bronze sculptures by Alberto Giacometti realised €2,189,600 / $2,545,301 (including fees). Fernand Léger’s Composition murale was acquired for €820,880 / $954,232, while Marc Chagall’s Maternité sur fond bleu reached €741,440 / $861,887. Further notable results included Anish Kapoor’s Mirror, which fetched €688,480 / $800,324, and Alexander Calder’s Cock’s comb, sold for €529,600 / $615,633 (including fees).
Another remarkable result came from Ossip Zadkine’s monumental sculpture La Force atomique, which doubled its estimate at €205,576 (estimate €100,000–150,000). Created in 1968 at the initiative of Belgian banker and patron Maurits Naessens, the work was originally conceived for the forecourt of the Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas headquarters in Antwerp — a testament to the enduring dialogue between art, architecture, and patronage.
