Timber construction is often said to be much more expensive than conventional building. That\u2019s not true. Hout Info Bois carried out a rigorous, objective study based on real market data: the difference is around 4%, far less than most people think, and it drops to 2.5% when higher energy standards are applied. With the construction sector facing the climate emergency, CO\u2082 reduction targets, and ever-stricter energy regulations, one question stands out: why aren\u2019t we building more with wood? For too long, timber construction has had an undeserved reputation: too costly, too fragile, too marginal. While governments commit to cutting CO\u2082 emissions, energy standards tighten, and people worry about the environment and the future of their children, timber construction provides a simple solution that should be embraced.
