Made in Belgium - Belgian industrials in Egypt

From 05/09/2020 to 04/12/2020 - CPI : 03/09/2020

An exhibition conducted by the Royal Museum of Mariemont and presented at Bois du Luc – Musée de la Mine et du Développement Durable sited at La Louvière. From 5th of September to 4th of December. Throughout the 19th century, Belgium figures amongst the great European industrial nations. Its know-how is exported all the way to Egypt where the “Made in Belgium” companies play a major role. The exhibition conducted by the Royal Museum of Mariemont brings to light the links between industry and patrimony from 1830 to 1952, on the eve of Egyptian independence. The accent is placed on one hand on the technical prowess, by presenting original blueprints of the Baume & Marpent society ; true technological and artistic gems, and on the other hand on the impact that these worksites had on the Belgian museum world. Indeed these industrial workers - labourers alongside engineers – discover the amazing patrimony of the Nile Valley and bring back countless archaeological artefacts that will one day constitute the heart of the Belgian public Egyptology collections.
