Founder in Belgium of the department stores Au Bon Marché, whose first store opened in Brussels in 1860, François Vaxelaire was at the origin of a formidable entrepreneurial and family adventure. The collection assembled by his grandson of the same name, consisting of paintings by important Flemish artists of the 16th and 17th centuries, bears witness to his love for the rich Belgian countryside, illustrated in particular by an exceptional set of ten tondi by Abel Grimmer representing the months of the year.
