How can exile be translated into art? What if it is the artist himself who experiences exile? How to use it to tell the story of separation from one's homeland, the causes of departure, the crossings? How can one continue to create when one is pushed away?
The exhibition Mères d'exil - Artists' Positions presents a wide range of views on exile, thanks to the work of thirty artists who have experienced it or are working with this theme.
Mères d'exil - Positions of artists is an art exhibition about the reception of the traveling stranger, the difficulties he or she encounters and the possibilities of inclusion in a community changed by his or her arrival. The title of the exhibition refers to the origin of departure, to the artist's attachment to his native land, but also to one of the main routes of exile, the sea. The MNEMA association, manager of La Cité Miroir, selected the works in close collaboration with L'atelier des artistes en exil, a shelter structure for established artists who have had to leave their country. Artworks by internationally renowned artists and Liege artists complete this multimedia exhibition (installations, comics, paintings, videos, sculptures, textile creations, photographs, etc.).
