The state of affairs in timber construction in Belgium and in the timber industry in Wallonia, 2021

Vom 30/09/2021 - Press visit : 30/09/2021

Every two years, the Office économique wallon du bois draws up a new report on the socio-economic situation of the wood sector in Wallonia. At the same time, Hout Info Bois is publishing a study into the state of timber construction in Belgium. The recent floods have again demonstrated the urgent need for concrete action to combat the effects of climate change. As a processor of a natural, local and infinitely renewable material, the wood sector is undoubtedly an important partner in the transition to a low-carbon society. The Walloon timber sector represents more than 18,000 jobs and 8,000 companies. Construction is the main driver, which is increasingly opting for wood: today, almost one in ten houses in Belgium are built from wood! But just like timber construction, the timber sector is also undergoing an evolution. What is the balance of the past 10 years? What are the current trends? What are the prospects for this sector, which will play a key role in the fight against climate change?
