In partnership with the museum Le Louvre
The theme of this exhibition is the journey of European artists and citizens, mostly English and well-off, to the Grand Tour. The exhibition focusses specifically on the daily life of the Romans that is depicted in detail by those who painted them in the 17th and 20th century, while of course also evoking the iconic monuments of the city, the main reason of the journey of « Tourists » and obsession of artists. The link between the artists, their relationships and friendships, and the places they met (bars, pubs or institutional villas) are also examined.
The exhibition wants to explain this phenomenon and look « behind the work ». It is a scientific exhibition that will interest different kinds of audiences however.
